Dear Friends,
In addition to all the other fun of the last few weeks, our washing machine broke on the second day of lockdown. Since no one is allowed in and we were not allowed out, there was no opportunity for someone to do a repair. We spent the last four weeks doing hand laundry in addition to working full time, sourcing food, and finding new recipes for unfamiliar food items.
As the weeks passed, I was on chats hearing that people were able to get freezers and ovens delivered to their compounds. So with the help of a colleague, we ordered a new washing machine. Luckily the installation was easy and we have been busy washing clothes all day.
If there is anything we've learned throughout this lockdown, it's how much we take for granted daily. The ease of a washing machine, food on the table, and the ability to take a walk around the block won't ever be taken for granted again.
